Your Master of Studies in Law, Now Online

You’ll begin your studies with an immersion in the discipline of legal reasoning. You’ll build a foundational understanding of the ways that attorneys are trained to navigate complex situations. You’ll also become familiar with the common law method by which doctrine is created; the importance and authority of statutes, codes, and regulations; and the structure of the U.S. legal system and its various actors and venues.

From cybersecurity to international regulatory environments, corporations are faced with complex challenges that require perspectives and solutions rooted in ethics and compliance. Our Master of Studies in Law program will provide you with a robust understanding of the compliance and ethics landscape and the ability to apply that knowledge in practical ways.

Over 21 months, you’ll gain a deep understanding of subjects like compliance programming, risk management, the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), conducting investigations, white-collar crime, ethical culture and decision making, cybersecurity and project management. You’ll also engage with executives and leaders in the industry as they share their perspectives on ethics and compliance.

Tuition for the M.S.L. program is $39,975 at current rates. Students also are required to pay a technology fee of $115.50 per term. There may also be costs associated with textbooks, copyright fees and commencement fees.

The Dean’s Compliance Scholarship is awarded on behalf of the dean of the University of St. Thomas School of Law to qualified applicants.

Connect with faculty, coursework and fellow students via our easy-to-use online learning platform. Coursework includes video lectures, podcasts, written assignments and student participation in online discussions and interactive collaborations. You’ll have opportunities to “meet” online with other students in real time, and catch up with other materials on the go. Online learning can result in more thoughtful, in-depth conversation, and you can anticipate fast faculty feedback, including virtual office hours.

You’ll study for your master’s as part of a cohort—a small, collaborative group of no more than 25 students. In our supportive learning environment, you’ll work on individual and group projects, building a professional network as you learn. You’ll engage with the same faculty who teach our on-campus Master of Studies in Law program, drawn from our ABA-accredited law school and AACSB-accredited Opus College of Business. You’ll also become part of our alumni network, which includes over 100,000 members across countless relevant industries, with chapters in cities throughout the U.S., including Chicago, New York, Washington D.C., and Seattle.

You can earn this degree in person at the St. Thomas campus in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. Our on-campus program offers additional flexibility in the courses you can choose and the time it takes you to complete the program.
